Successful sustainability event at Transuniverse Forwarding “Emission Impossible?
Transuniverse Forwarding’s sustainability event held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, was a great success!
Like-minded entrepreneurs gathered in Wondelgem to learn about the future of sustainability within the logistics sector.
Providing the information was Hans Verboven from our sustainability partner Sustacon. He explained that sustainability not only entails obligations, such as the reporting requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, but also offers opportunities to improve operations. He described a roadmap to reduce emissions that participants can work with.
That climate change requires us to take action was clear from Nic Balthazar’s talk. “Achieving zero emissions in the transport and logistics sector by 2050 is a huge challenge, but there is no alternative.”
With the necessary quips, he outlined a doomsday scenario of global warming that, at a “tipping point” of 1.5 to 2 degrees of warming, can no longer be reversed. “23.4% of our country’s total CO2 emissions comes from transportation, and while other sectors are reducing their emissions, that of transportation is still increasing.”
The event and networking opportunity was a great step forward in our joint sustainability efforts. We thank everyone who attended and are confident that the knowledge shared and new connections will contribute to a more sustainable logistics sector.
