Transuniverse Takes Strong Measures Against Cyberattacks

Cybercrime has serious consequences for supply chains. When hackers paralyze the IT systems of a transport company, they disrupt not only its operations but also those of its customers, leading to delays and revenue losses. That’s why Transuniverse Forwarding has been investing heavily in cybersecurity for years, in order to protect itself as much as possible against cyberattacks.

In recent years, several transport companies have fallen victim to cyberattacks. Notable cases include Maersk, Expeditors, Swissport, and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. According to experts, many of these attacks have remained under the radar to avoid reputational damage. As a result, Europe is introducing more legislation to better protect supply chains and strengthen digital resilience.

“The main responsibility for ensuring cybersecurity still lies with the companies themselves. Awareness remains insufficient: it’s estimated that about 40% of Belgian companies (across all sectors) have already been victims of a cyberattack. However, awareness is growing,” says Gunther Storme, digital expert at VIL, the Flemish Innovation Platform for Logistics.

“At Transuniverse, we’ve been aware of these risks for quite some time. For over 10 years, we’ve been taking measures to protect ourselves against cyberattacks. Today, we can confidently say our level of protection is very solid. Thanks to various ‘Detect and Response’ technologies, we can quickly detect suspicious activity and stop attacks before any damage is done. By keeping our security tools continuously updated, we drastically reduce vulnerabilities,” says Sven De Moor, responsible for IT infrastructure and networks at Transuniverse.

Well on the Way to NIS2 Certification
“Compliance with the new European NIS2 directive (Network and Information Security 2) is also a crucial step in strengthening our cybersecurity. Through a structured approach and the implementation of robust security measures, we are well on our way to achieving NIS2 certification. This will not only boost our defense against cyber threats and enhance our operational resilience, but also increase the trust of our customers and partners,” he explains.

Training to Improve User Awareness
“Prevention is better than cure. Even though we have systems in place to protect ourselves as much as possible – no one can claim to be 100% safe from cyberattacks – we also invest heavily in user awareness. We train our employees to recognize phishing emails and malicious links. For example, we regularly send out simulated phishing emails to staff to teach them the correct response. In addition, every incoming email containing a link is automatically screened,” Sven adds.

Business Continuity Guaranteed
“Suppose, despite all precautions, a cyberattack is not stopped in time – as I said, no security system is 100% foolproof – we have the procedures and systems in place to keep the company up and running. Moreover, these tools prevent our customers and suppliers from becoming infected or having their data stolen,” he says.
“Transuniverse places great importance on cybersecurity. We continuously invest in advanced systems and strict procedures to fend off cyberattacks, ensure operational continuity, and optimally protect our partners’ data,” Sven concludes.
